Indeed it has been fun sharing my life, my thoughts and my weirdest thoughts with you all..

As such, I would like to announce that from today onwards, I will not be xangaing anymore. Yes, I have fallen prey too to the deceptions of blogspot and I have made the switch there. I hope you all will still come visit me at my new blog site

http://marktan79.blogspot.com

I hope to see all of you visiting me at my new blog.

What a long winded message just to say that I've changed blog. Must be the female side of me.

See you all at http://marktan79.blogspot.com

Thursday, June 17, 2004

I was trying to do some minor editing to my Xanga's look and feel yesterday and accidently clicked the "revert to default" button instead of "save changes button".. so thought what the heck, may as well have a new colour scheme. Decided to go for a more pleasant and easy on the eye looking colour scheme. Sign of old age showing... everything pleasant, not sharp and contrasting. I remember when I was younger (about 18-20 like that), I use to wear dark coloured shirts with mega bright looking tie. I remember I have this tie that's really super jeng, neon colours to be exact.. the only person that I know that likes that tie is Joann Saw. I loved that tie so much, it was like my identity. I was wore it to office onece (when I was still working in BCB), everyone was like "Mark..!!! apa tu??!!!" and I looked in the mirror and I agreed with them "Apa tu??!!!"... yeah that was about 2 years ago and since than I realised that my dressing has changed from loud to very soft colours... or maybe just not so loud... yup.. like I said sign of old age....

On another note, I think I need to revamp my wardrobe, have not done that since don't know when... my office clothes seriously needs a revamp. I'm still wearing shirts from my APIIT days... those colours are really out man. Guess it's time to sell one guitar to finance my wardrobe revamp. Anybody wants to go shopping with me?

I drove my dad's car to work on tuesday because he is away with mom in Cape Town enjoying the cool air and his car needs a warm up, so I being the good son warmed up his car by driving it to office. Hey.. it's not everyday you get to drive a Volvo to work okay.. alright it may not be a S60 of XC90, but it's still a freaking Volvo... yeah anyway... drove it to work and reversed the car straight into my boss' 3 months old Toyota Vios because I forgot there's no reverse sensor in my dad's car. Me being so used to a reverse sensor didn't hear no sound and backed in straight to my boss' car. Thank God no serious damage just a cracked number plate.

Anyway today, I thought I warm up my mom's car.. so drove the Kelisa to work and again I backed into my boss' car... again I forgot no reverse sensor... this is bad!!! I think I was too sleepy.. not enough sleep from the euro matches... embarassing... at least reverse a volvo into the car I can say big car not used to it... now what can I say.. small car not used to it??? shy lar..

Played bass for prayer meeting last night. Played bad man!!! So long never play for praise and worship already, found it a bit hard to get into the feel of worship, feeling rusty..!! Too much her reverie stuff already..

Talking about her reverie.. worked on some new stuff last tuesday.. man arrangements for the new songs are crazy man thanks to dear Justin and Keng Lee. Their song arrangements are like all out to kill the drummer and bassist.. I don't know what they have against drummer and bassist. Poor Simon and me.

Anyway, lunch time... woo hoo!!!

England playing the Swiz tonight... it's do or die for England and I hope they win.

** the above is totally ignored if the girl is Kristin Kreuk.

I watched “How to loose a guy in 10 days” on Friday night so it kind of inspired to write out my own version of “How to loose a guy”. But it is my version so it may differ from guy to guy but I believe most guys have the same sentiment as me. Than again people have said that I’m fussy and weird and I get freaked out by girls very easily, so maybe we should just keep it to Mark Tan’s version of how to loose a guy in more than 10 ways. Maybe a girl should come out with their own “How to loose a girl in more than 10 ways”. Why get someone of the opposite sex to write something like that when it’s better to get the same gender to write out topics like the above. I can’t understand why Her World, Cleo all this ladies magazines have women journalist to write out this kind of topics. At least FHM, Men’s Health has female journalist.

Anyway, I just thought I write my thoughts out for the fun of it but it is my personal views and honest opinions. Well, the above topic aside, it was good to just stay at home and watch a movie over dinner. I’ve not done that in ages and I must say that it was so nice and so relaxing. I’ve spent almost a total of RM100 of DVDs this whole weekend. Finally caught up with all those movies that I’ve always wanted to watch like “finding nemo”, 2 fast 2 furious”, “intolerable cruelty”… yes yes my weekend was almost like a movie marathon weekend. But like I said, it’s something that I’ve wanted to do for so long.

Here’s a short summary of my Friday night and my weekend.

Friday – <st1:date Month="11" Day="6" Year="2004">11/06/04</st1:date>

Went home early.. at about <st1:time Hour="16" Minute="30">4:30pm</st1:time> and got a hair cut. It’s always nice to see my hair stylist Ling. She told me about her whole holiday in Melbourne. Made me wish I could go on a holiday too….!!! Maybe a holiday with her??? Hehehe….

I wanted to go CG visitation, something I’ve not done in a while, but was feeling very tired and under the weather so thought I stay home and just chill out. That’s when I thought I finally make full use of my DVD player which hasn’t played a single DVD for the last 6 months since it was purchased.

Woke up early, woo..hoo…had my dad’s car to drive around for the weekend. Well, both my parents are still in South Africa and my dad did tell me to warm up his car. So that’s what I did. Also there’s something wrong with my car too lar…

Had to pop into office to get somethings sorted out before heading to church for college leaders meeting chair by uncle Hock.

Had band practice at <st1:time Hour="15" Minute="0">3pm</st1:time> before heading to Bukit Jalil for the Inter Accountability Group futsal challenge. Hehehehe… My team won. We lost the first game 4-1 to hock’s group. After some scolding and reprimand by our dear Isaac Yap, man we played more like there’s no end after that. We met Hock’s group in the finals and managed to beat them 5-3. Hero for the final was non-other than our foreign import Chris Chan.

Your efforts didn’t go to waste, we had lots of fun.

I thought Terry did a good job for worship. CG teaching was good. Two thumbs up esp. for Cherrie for teaching so well in her CG.

Went home and slept for like 3 hours. Walked over to my parent’s place so I could take my mom’s car for a spin to warm it up. Wanted to meet up with my sis for dinner but she went for third and wanted to eat on her own. So it was off to the DVD shop again to pick out a dvd for dinner. Picked out “2 fast 2 furious” and “Intolerable Cruelty”. Never thought I could have another dvd dinner again so fast. But this time round it felt a bit lonely lar… it’s like kinda wished someone was with me like that… so that means dvd dinners cannot be too often and too close to the last one… hhhmmm… new theory formed.

Went to bed a bit early so to wake up for England-France which was not worth my waking up at all!!!!! Hoo Ray!!! First weekend to look forward to without having to worry about The Edge. Actually, still accounts to close lar.... so maybe still have worries.

Was very down yesterday. Got bang by my lady boss on some issues and it made me quite upset because as far as I'm concern, I've reach all expectations. Anyway, had a talk with her this morning in the office and praise God we managed to clear the air. Basically she said that I have reach all expectations but she wants me to go that next level. Kind of like our Christian walk, where Christ wants us to always strive to go to that next level. I guess God wants us to go that next level in all aspect, in YC, music and for me my work. I would like to say thanks to Sue Ann and Sook for cheering me up yesterday. So this blog is for the both of you.

Yesterday, Hobs walks holding a puncher in his hand and ask my MD "How do you use this?". I couldn't believe my ears, the bird brain doesn't even know how to use a puncher??!!! no wonder his brain size is smaller than a bird.

A group of us were quite cis off with our MD too yesterday. He asked us to prepare a proposal for a potential client. I read the Request For Proposal written by the client and it looked at least like a RM2 million contract. We were all like WOO HOO!!! fat bonus coming!! at the end of the day.. My MD quoted the client RM600K.....aaarrrrggghhh!!!! I feel like a cheap Bangla worker. Well, can complain, at first MD quoted RM300K and we all almost died standing!!! But thanks to the intervention of my lady boss and director, it was raised to RM600K. Well, at least I know I have salary for the next six months.

Think I'll go home early today... feeling a bit under the weather.

Wednesday, June 09, 2004

My lady boss related to be one funny incident with Hobs when I was away last week.

Hobs walks into the office with a comb of bananas and enters my boss' room.

Hobs to my lady boss: Would you like my bananas for breakfast? (plugs one banana out from the comb and puts it on her table)

Any given day, that quote can be used as sexual harrasment sued. I wonder does the dude ever think before he speaks or am I the screwed up one.

Work this last few days has really been a drag. I can't seem to stay awake after 2pm. It's not the after lunch effect it's really I loose focus and all brain power after 2pm. Like today, if I hadn't sleep for 1/2 hour after lunch... I'll probably just collapse in the middle of somewhere. How I wish I can be like Scott Lim, on a holiday straight after the conference.

My parents are off to South Africa, how I wish I can follow them .

Lastly for today's blog, I know it's short but I'm really not in the mood. For those who know and gunning for me for the Malaysian Idol. Well sorry to say that I chicken out. I don't think I can pull off a William Hung as I thought I could neither can I pull off a Fantasia Barrino... so what happens to those in stuck in the middle?? Go figure!!! Guess I just don't want to do something which I know I'll not make it and also I can't imagine lining up from 9am - 5pm wondering when's it going to be my turn. Besides, don't know what song to sing and no time to prepare. But bottomline is, I'm scared and decide to chicken out. Hey!! I get some credit for being honest here right???

I think I'll be happy playing the bass for her reverie even if it means the bassist gets no recognition at all. At least I'm happy and don't make a full out of myself.... but than again??? what happens if I get fever just before a show again??

On a side note, her reverie have sold 100 CDs in less than 2 days.. Aw-right!!! we just produced our 2nd 100 so all who are interested to waste some money can come support us and buy our CD... only RM8. If you buy more than 30 CDs at one go, you get to go out dinner with our lead singer Sue 1 on 1 (if you're a guy) and girls if you buy 30 at one go, you get to go 1 on 1 dinner with guitar maestro Justin Fungky Lim. And if any of you guys buy more than 100 at one go, you get to go out 1 on 1 with Miss CD cover girl. Promotion while stocks last. Oh, did I say that you're paying for the dinners yourself?? And the whoever earns to go out with CD cover girl... she demands nothing less than a lobster dinner... RIGHT Miss CD cover girl????

Do I sense a surge in CD sales coming??? I also sense some hands slapping me soon.

How I wish there were this sort of contest to go out with Kristin Kreuk

This blog turned out quite long also..........................

Wednesday, June 09, 2004

This track is my favourite from "From the Rooftop" album by the Desperadoes I mean Deperation Band.

Thinking back to the concert nights, I seriously have never felt such a strong presence of God sweep through the sanctuary so powerful in a long while. The minute Ross Parsley began with the song "everyone" you can just sence God's presence over flowing the whole sanctuary. Even when I had to step out of the sanctuary to do some stuff, I could feel the presence of God all the way to the back row and even outside. Now that's what I call annointing. I pray that this is the beginning of what God is going to do in FGA.

Some of you might know the story. Not nice to tell the whole story here.

But believe me with all your heart.... I didn't know she was married!!! For pete sake... not every 23 year old I meet is MARRIED!!!! Hey Scott was interested in her too!!!

Monday, June 07, 2004

As promised a day by day account of The Edge Conference from preparation Monday all the way to Friday night concerts as I remember it. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

All of us reported for “work” at about <st1:time Minute="0" Hour="9">9am</st1:time>. Took a short breakfast with the whole crew and we were all off to one whole grueling day of work. The whole church office was in a buzz. From sorting out name tags to doing the database to signage to packing the folders. First boo boo to happen. Scott accidentally erased the phone numbers from the database.

My highlight of the day was trying to get unc remy. You see he was suppose to take a workshop on mixing sound but the day before he told unc fred to tell me to postpone his class because his plane only arrives 2 june mid-night and his workshop is 2nd june 11:45am. At first I thought of calling each of Remy’s participant, after the first 10 calls, nicci, chu yeh all came back with all sorts of feedback. Mike, Scott thought it was really impossible to postpone his class. Anyway to cut the long story short, I found out later that his plane arrives 1 june 12noon so that means he can take the workshop. Pastor Mike called him and managed to persuade him to stick to the workshop. PRAISE GOD!!!!

I was getting real stress at night already. My band had a practice session in church that night, I curi tulang and went and joined them for 15 minutes to relief some stress. Jamming with them for 15 minutes sure helped man.

Anyway we wraped up and went home at 12 mid-night. 15 hours of work!!! Now if only I was this passionate for my secular work.

Tuesday – <st1:date Year="2004" Day="6" Month="1">1/6/04</st1:date>

THE DAY!!! Wah lau!!! Helter skelter man the first day. But it’s usual lar for the first day of a conference to be like that. 40 name tags went missing so yeah some participants were without name tags for a while.

The workshop venues weren't ready in time too. My boo boo for the first day of the conference.

1. I lost the whole YC mike box but thank God Chuckie found it.

2. I accidentally left the DVD player in one of the workshop rooms and didn’t realized it until that workshop ended. Thank God no one walked away with it because I just left it on a seat.

3. The location I allocated for Glenn Lim’s workshop was too small. People had to seat in the corridor. I didn’t expect last minute so many people turned out for his workshop. Had to shift them to Chapel for their second session.

First night’s concert was okay… sound was very bad!!! I tahan until cannot tahan I marched straight up to the sound console to interfere already and guess who beat me there, David Gary, the bassist for Altered Frequency. He also said he cannot tahan liao.

The Desperation Band was good. They got the crowd going on the first night.

Wednesday – <st1:date Year="2004" Day="6" Month="2">2/6/04</st1:date>

Things went a whole lot smoother today. Organised the workshop a whole lot better, no major boo boo for the day. Remy turned up for his workshop thank God. Was so afraid that his jet lag would take a toll on him. It did lar, but it wasn’t so bad until he could not come.

The second night’s concert was so much better, the sound was just awesome man. It’s really a sense of security when Remy does the sound. Everything was crystal clear. You hear the sound really steam man!!! It just sends you pumping!!! It was as if you were listening straight from the CD.

We spent the whole night assembling PCs for Scott’s class the next day. We encountered a lot of problem but thank God for Tien Ming and his MCSE knowledge, he troubled shoot everything. I didn’t had to crack a brain cell to think. Tien Ming just came to me with a problem with a solution attached to it. You really came through Tien Ming.

Joke for that night

1. David tries to assemble a PC. Big error words “Keyboard and mouse not attached” he turns around to Anand and ask “How ah?? How ah?? How ah??” Ai yoh!!! Only know how to play guitar and loose hand phone but fix keyboard and mouse????

2. Anand slaps Scott on the face and a road runner and coyote cartoon emerges.

3. Turning all the lights off and left scott sleeping in L4 hall after assembling all the PCs. If not for the good conscience of Anand, Judah and I wanted to just leave him there till the next day.

Thursday – <st1:date Year="2004" Day="6" Month="3">3/6/04</st1:date>

I came down with fever in the late morning but I decided to tahan through the day. Took pockets of nap here and there to stay alert.

Things went quite smoothly the whole day. Everyone was on top of everything. I did 2 boo boos though:

1. I put Ross Parsley workshop in Chapel and it was like sardines in Chapel. You could not even walk without hitting someone or something. I should have learnt from previous days that Ross Parsley workshops equal more than 200 participants.

2. Glenn Lim showed a movie about himself. I thought no one will go and watch it so I put the show in Chapel. Guess what??? Almost 250 people squeeze into chapel. A whole lot of people just came and went off. I saw the crowd and quickly walked off before anyone complained to me.

I have to say that though Glenn Lim an asian, his status in The Edge was as big a Ross Parsley. I mean everyone just wanted a piece of Glenn just like everyone wanted a piece of Ross.

Hero of the day was Khai Meng. He took his workshop so well man, the way he interacted with the crowd??!!! You won’t believe it’s Khai Meng…. Khai Meng if you’re reading this, you were really good. Every questioned that the audience asked, Khai Meng had an answer and a sample to show them. In case you all are blur, Khai Meng single handedly took a workshop entitle “Turing your home into a recording studio”.

My band opened for Desperation. By the time we took stage my fever was at its peak already, the panadol I took earlier hasn’t taken effect yet. I blacked out 3 times on stage so that explains the 3 bigs mistakes I made on stage. But thank God people still liked our act. Our first batch of about 50 CDs was sold out in the first night.. wow!!! Thank you all who supported her reverie.

Friday – <st1:date Year="2004" Day="6" Month="4">4/6/04</st1:date>

Last day for The Edge and I was looking forward to it ending but at the same time that all the effort we put in is coming to an end.

It was a very kembang day for me man. 1st during the worship band dynamic workshop, the bassist for Desperation used me as an example for the workshop when it came to talking about how a bass player should play. He said something like “You know Mac Taan from her reverie… he rocked man, he was playing the 8th note………blah blah…I mean Mac Taan just rock man!!!” Wah lau!! Damn malu lar… it’s not to say I that fantastic a player or what…. but at the same time kembang lar… an integrity bassist said I was rocking… hehehehehe…. Hhhmmm… does that mean I am good enuff for integrity??? Hehehehehehehe…..

Second was when Mike asked Scott, Judah, Tien Ming, Rachel, Chuckie, Hock, Terry, Paul and myself to stand out on stage for recognition of our contribution to the conference… ai yah… don’t know about the rest lar… not to sound humble or what lar.. but we do things for Lord and for me as long as the Lord knows of my contribution that’s enough. But it was a kembang day lar…. Esp with the bass playing one not that it made me air headed but to be honest and I think I only shared it with Deborah that I considered quitting the bass because I just felt I was not cut out enough and I just thought I was plain not good. I can’t keep a steady time and how to play bass lar when you can’t keep a steady timing. So to hear Matt Fallentine say Mark kept good timing, he set the groove, mark played some nice interesting bass chords, mark just rock, I guess I just needed to hear that because I was getting discourage with my playing. So guess God knows where and when to encourage me.

The last night’s concert just rocked big time man!!!! I really enjoyed myself on the last night of the conference.

My boo boo for the day was leaving the L5 projector key in my house. Man, I heard that Isaac was raving mad and Mike got all the brunt of it. I am so sorry that I forgot to bring the keys and caused such inconvenience and distress.

Overall, I really thank God for the success of the conference. I really pray the The Edge is a brand now and it can be used even further next year. Just that the logistic work and all just scares you!!!

What touched me was Ross Parsley. Imagine, second in command to one of the biggest church in US, an endorsed Integrity Artist with 3 albums under his belt, I mean this guys is in the same status as Paul Baloche, Ken Henry and even Ron Kenoly. But his humbleness is just can’t be explained. An integrity artist?? Ron Kenoly stayed in a 5 star hotel when he came to KL, but Ross stayed in our house 3 without a complain and even said that he was so comfortable there. He ate in Nathans corner, walked himself to his workshops, walked himself to L4 for lunch, sitting in our old church van and not a big car not needing any escort or what not to take him anywhere. I mean I’ve seen unknowns asking for so much and so much and expect so much and so much… but He told me this “Mark, you don’t have to come and get me, I know the way.. don’t worry about me…take care of the conference and yourself”…. man that’s what I call humbleness!!!! A world renowned Integrity Artist saying that and acting so humble. He is really one act to follow.

I want to Thank Everyone for praying and helping in the THE EDGE again!!!! I seriously hope there will be THE EDGE – Jesus and beyond the Edge

Monday, June 07, 2004

The Edge is over and I’m back to my office at work. I start my new contract with my company so that means I’ll be here till January next year and than I decide again to stick around or to move on. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The Edge Conference was a Over The Edge!!! It Rocked big time!! I think it’s YC’s biggest ever conference organized and biggest turn out for a YC organized night concerts. I want to thank every soul that put their hearts and minds in making this conference such an impact. People have been raving about this conference and it has got me so excited. One of the participants told me this “I’ve been to a few Hills Songs conference and I learnt so much more from The Edge because the substance of the conference was so much deeper than Hill Songs”. I tell you I nearly tear when I heard that. Scott Lim and I nearly tear too when we saw the sanctuary packed with 1000 people on Friday night. I thank God for moving so much in this conference.

My dream now is that The Edge will become a brand like Planet Shakers and The Edge is an annual affair where people all over will come and attend and be bless. The Edge have been compared to Hills, so I think it’s time FGA takes one more step ahead. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Malaysia Boleh!! I couldn’t have asked anymore from you guys. All those who have helped us so much, Janice, Joelle, Anand, Lily, the Woan sisters and many many many more that this whole Xanga site will be filled with names… you guys all rock!!! This is what I call Revolutionary!!! Off course not to forget our dear pastors Mike and Chiew Har. I think they worked until their butts fell off because of the stress I put on them. Thanks for barring with me. So again I thank all those who have helped make The Edge go Over The Edge.

Just to let you guys know that I've got sms asking about the Trasformers, Gandam, Metalslugs cartoons.

Her Reverie EP is finally out. It'll be release on 31st May. Quite an auspicious day, I had my near death experience on this date. Princess Di and Dodi died on this date in the tunnel in France. HHmm... I hope this does not effect the sell of our CD.

Anyway, if you're interested to buy, prepare your RM8. CDs will be sold during The Edge concerts. CDs are also available at Music Magic (Central Market) and Music Exchange (Bukit Bintang area).

Paul, you'll get your fully authographed CD.

And first one to guess who's on the cover will get a free CD. All can take part except Ieian, Isaac and Jon Lee. However it's I who determine who is the first one.
